Englishmen Excel In Vancouver
Top seed Chris Simpson led a trio of Englishmen through to the semi-finals of the BC Honda Dealers Open, the $10,000 PSA World Tour squash event at Jericho Tennis Club in Vancouver, Canada.
The Guernsey-born 23-year-old beat fifth-seeded compatriot Lewis Walters 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 to set up an all-English semi-final against Joe Lee, the No3 seed.
Lee, runner-up in last week's GoodLife Open in Ottawa, defeated one of three Canadians to lose out at the quarter-final stage. The 21-year-old from Surrey beat Vancouver-based qualifier Justin Todd 11-1, 11-9, 14-12.
It is Czech number one Jan Koukal who stands in the way of an all-English final. The second seed from Prague - who is competing in his 18th Tour event this year - will face Devon 22-year-old James Snell after beating Canada's 8th seed Tyler Hamilton 11-9, 11-6, 11-5.
Snell, the fourth seed, reached the semi-finals after resisting a determined fightback from Andrew McDougall - eventually beating the No6 seed from Calgary 11-5, 11-7, 3-11, 7-11, 11-4 in 57 minutes.
Semi-final line-up:
[1] Chris Simpson (ENG) v [3] Joe Lee (ENG)
[2] Jan Koukal (CZE) v [4] James Snell (ENG)

Canada's Andrew McDougall pushes Snell to the limit at B.C. Honda Dealers Open
VANCOUVER – Andrew McDougall of Calgary continued his strong play at the B.C. Honda Dealers Open men’s professional squash tournament Friday pushing fourth seed James Snell of England to the five-game limit in his quarterfinal.
The competition hosted by the Jericho Tennis Club is the fifth stop on the Canadian circuit and also a stop on the men’s Professional Squash Association (PSA) tour.
Snell finally took the hour-long match 11-5, 11-7, 3-11, 7-11, 11-4. It was the second night in a row McDougall went the distance. He needed five games to eliminate Matthew Serediak of Saskatoon on Thursday.
“I was kind of surprised to come back after dropping the first two games,” said McDougall. “James was definitely in his comfort zone and I needed to do something to make him guess a bit more. I mixed up my shots a bit more and that seemed to work. But in the fifth he just played better than me.”
It’s been a good fall season for McDougall who reached his first career pro semifinal last month and has advanced to the quarters at the last two pro tournaments.
“I’m definitely playing a lot better,” said McDougall. “I feel I understand the game a lot more.”
